Certificate eligibility and value depend on your system, installation date, location and applicable scheme requirements.

≤100kW

Small-scale systems

STCs can apply to qualifying small-scale solar installations with eligible system capacity of 100kW or less.

Upfront

Reduce project cost

Applicable STCs can contribute toward reducing the effective upfront cost of an eligible solar installation.

Variable

Project-specific value

Certificate entitlement and market value can vary according to the installation and applicable scheme conditions.

Understanding the scheme

What are Small-scale Technology Certificates?

STCs are certificates associated with eligible small-scale renewable-energy installations under Australia’s renewable-energy framework.

Homeowners and small businesses installing eligible new solar systems may be able to use the value of applicable STCs to help offset the cost of purchasing and installing their system.

The number of certificates associated with a project depends on several factors, which means the benefit should be assessed as part of the actual system design rather than assumed in advance.

What affects your STCs?

The certificate amount is project-specific.

The STCs associated with an eligible installation can be influenced by the location of the system, when it is installed and the applicable deeming period.

01

System location

Geographic location can affect the certificate calculation associated with an eligible solar system.

02

Installation date

The date your system is installed can influence the certificate entitlement under the applicable scheme.

03

Deeming period

The applicable remaining deeming period can affect the number of certificates created by an eligible installation.

Illustrative STC example 6.66kW A simple example showing how certificates can contribute toward the effective cost of an eligible solar installation.

How STC value can add up.

For illustration, a 6.66kW solar system installed in South Australia in 2023 was estimated at approximately 72 STCs.

At an illustrative certificate value of $37 each, 72 STCs would represent approximately $2,664 in certificate value.

STC entitlement and certificate market prices can change. Your actual benefit will depend on the system, installation date, location and applicable scheme conditions.

How Solaring can help

Start with the right solar system.

The system should first suit your property and energy requirements. Applicable STCs can then be considered as part of the overall project.

01

Assess your property

We review your electricity use, roof, property conditions and future energy requirements.

02

Design the system

Solar capacity and equipment are selected around the site and how your property uses energy.

03

Review STC eligibility

Applicable certificate eligibility can be assessed against the proposed system and installation.

04

Receive your proposal

We prepare the recommended equipment, installation scope and relevant project information for review.
